10 Q's with JOHN WAITE (BAD ENGLISH/THE BABYS/SOLO)
Vocalist with THE BABYS and the late 80's 'supergroup BAD ENGLISH which featured members of JOURNEY plus of course a series of solo albums and the big hit 'Missing You'.
1. What are you currently up to? (E.g. touring/studio, etc.)
At the moment I'm gigging and getting ready for a video shoot. Theres a strong possibility of playing Europe before November but I'm uncertain. Theres a lot of things going on!
2. Your new album is reworkings of your past songs with some new songs. How did you choose which songs to re-record and how did the idea of a female vocal on 'Missing You' come about?
The best songs made the album. 5 did'nt. I almost scraped the whole thing at one point. As soon as I sang with Alison I got interested again.
3. You are playing UK dates in November. What sort of set list can fans expect and why has it taken so long to get over to the UK?
IF we come ( ask the promoter). it will be a wander down "memory lane" in more ways than one.
4. Are their any fellow vocalists out there you'd like to work with in the future given the opportunity?
Working with Alison was that great moment for me.
5. Are there any plans to give your solo catalogue a full European release? (Many of the latter day albums are very hard to find here in the UK) For instance do Frontiers want to re-release your earlier solo albums at some stage?
No plans.
6. Bad English - are there any unreleased tracks from this band? Why did the band call it a day and do you still keep in contact with the other band members?
We ran out of "badness"....there are no plans to release anything....there is nothing .
7. How did you get your first break into the music business? What piece of advice would you pass onto budding musicians, especially regarding keeping the voice in good shape through the years as yours has?
Get a lawyer. I smoke 5 cigarettes a day and drink red wine.
8. Which song(s) do you enjoy performing most live and why?
All songs are different and so is each performance.
9. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I read a lot, drink red wine and keep a low profile.
10. Message to your fans...
Give the new record a shot and come and see me sing.
