More RATT news as vocalist Stephen Pearcy has cancelled all his remaining solo dates this year & in Jan, further fuelling rumours of a reunion.

AFM Records will release the POODLES ‘Metal Will Stand Tall’ in Europe on Jan 19th.

Steve Winwood, Pete Townshend, Paul Weller and Bill Wyman are among those taking part in an all-star celebration of the late Jim Capaldi, a former member of Traffic. The show will take place January 21, close to the second anniversary of his death, at London's Roundhouse. Tickets go on sale December 18.
The Dear Mr. Fantasy concert, named for one of Traffic's best-known albums, will celebrate the life and work of Capaldi, who died of cancer January 28, 2005, at the age of 60. The event will raise funds for the Jubilee Action Street Children Appeal, a charity in which Capaldi and his wife Anina were active. Also confirmed to appear are Joe Walsh, former Deep Purple keyboardist Jon Lord, Gary Moore, Simon Kirke, Dennis Locorriere, the Storys, Andy Newmark, Ray Cooper and keyboardist Paul "Wix" Wickens."

Damage Control are to release their debut album, 'Raw', early in '07. The band features Quireboys vocalist Spike, guitarist/vocalist Robin George, bassist Pete Way (UFO, Waysted) and drummer Chris Slade (AC/DC, Uriah Heep, Asia).

PRESS RELEASES

Frontiers Records is immensely proud to officially announce the signing of Night Ranger for the release of their brand new studio album Hole in the Sun!

Like no other band formed in the 80s, Night Ranger has both epitomized and transcended the sound and style of that decade. Since original members Jack Blades, Jeff Watson, Kelly Keagy and Brad Gillis reunited in 1996, they have brought their guitar-crunching, melodic brand of hard rock into the 21st century with unparalleled talent, energy and creativity.
Night Ranger left an indelible mark with a string of best-selling albums that sold more than 16 million copies worldwide. The band's popularity was fueled by an impressive string of instantly recognizable hit singles and signature album tracks, including Sister Christian, (You Can Still) Rock In America, When You Close Your Eyes, Sentimental Street, Goodbye and Don't Tell Me You Love Me. Harnessing the frenetic drive of heavy metal to hook-laden rockers, a stunning twin lead guitar team, and melodious, radio-friendly power ballads, Night Ranger inspired new descriptive phrases such as melodic metal and metal power pop, and became the standard-bearer of a new sound.
Following a seven-year absence, Night Ranger reunited in 1996 for a World tour. The overwhelming response proved the continued love for the music and the band. That year also garnered the Ron Nevison produced album Neverland, featuring the radio friendly single Forever All Over Again.
In 1997, the three-time Oscar-nominated film Boogie Nights spotlighted Sister Christian as one of the songs that defined the previous decade. Also that year, the band released Seven, a studio album that helped set the standard for the 80s rock revival.
Since then Night Ranger members have been busy individually in several solo projects, while the band kept active touring across the USA and Japan. Writing and recording sessions for a brand new studio album started at the end of 2005, with progresses in between the busy schedules of the band members. "I can't believe it is almost 2007!" admits bass player and singer Jack Blades. "Most of the songs were written at the end of 2005 and recording happened at my Barn Studio (The Cock and Bottle studio) and Jeff's studio (Camp Watson)."
"I think you just keep making records and writing the songs that are in your heart", continues Blades. "As long as we continue to write and record with passion and integrity, (which we have done) I believe the fans will enjoy the ride. I personally am very proud of all the records Night Ranger has made over the 20 plus years of our career. This record reflects the years of touring so it rocks pretty hard. It also speaks to where the band is musically in 2006. Lots of split vocals and dual guitars."
With song titles as There Is Life, Tell your Vision, Drama Queen, Rock Star, White Knuckle Ride and Whatever Happened, Night Ranger music and attitude has now come full circle. Great melodies, blazing guitars and fun crazy rocking live shows..."it is all we know how to do", admits Blades.
We know we all can look forward to the release of Hole in the Sun during the spring of 2007!

Patrik Carlsson - Melodic Travel - Patrik Carlsson is one of a hot new generation of exciting instrumental guitarists to have come out of Sweden in the new millennium. His debut release Phraseology (LMC107) was released in 2004 on Lion Music and now his follow up Melodic Travel sees Patrik take a turn into more traditional music waters to produce a very visual and melodic instrumental release that combines Patrik's guitar flash with some folk and jazz inflections.
On the new music's nature Patrik comments, "This was first meant to be a folk/jazz-inspired trip to the heart of Swedish traditional music. But then I change my mind and started to explore various sidetracks and musical solutions. The final result was a lot of different alternatives and in the search for the melodic treasures new discoveries were made". "The melodic travel begins in the deep forests of the northern mountains. You will hear the sound of ancient workers with their tools and the melody once created with the violins celebrating their lifestyle. Having passed through different environments and landscapes the adventure will end up in a red cottage on a small island far away from modern civilisation, where the water and the winds are quiet and the sunset soon will pass into darkness."
Each song on Melodic Travel has its own story, and to accompany the release Patrik's official website (www.figstamper.com) will have illustrations to visualise each song's story and mood.
Track Listing: 1. Settler's Pleasure, 2. Battlefield, 3. Kristiina's Song, 4. Caribbean Uptempo, 5. Gate to Heaven, 6. Liberty City, 7. Luxian Minor, 8. Archipelago Blues, 9. Night Vision, 10. the Great A, 11. Hip `n Melodic, 12. Desederia, 13. Happy Quarter, 14. Naboo, 15. Spanish Vaganza, 16. Silence.

Upcoming releases in January 2007 -
Engine Of Pain - I Am Your Enemy - A very heavy release in the vein of Testament, Pantera and The Haunted. Engine of Pain are one of the hottest metal bands to have hailed from the Netherlands in the last few years and with their debut full length debut "I Am Your Enemy" the band have produced an album that is a non compromising sonic statement from start to finish.
Massimo Izzizzari - Unstable Balance - Great guitar instrumental with great songs.

REVIEWS

FAITH AND FIRE ‘Accelerator’ Metal Heaven (2007)

The name may not mean much to you but the band members certainly will as they include Riot’s Mike Flyntz and Tony Moore (he sang on Riot’s classic ‘Thundersteel’ album) plus bass player Danny Miranda, ex-Blue Oyster Cult now part of Queen’s touring band. This album reminds me so much of latter day Blue Oyster Cult, with Moore’s vocals at times sounding like BOC’s Buck Dharma on the quieter tunes such as the lighters aloft ballad ‘Angel’. ‘Ready’ sets the standard perfectly – hard rocking riffs, powerful vocals plus anti-Bush lyrics. Very Riot in sound but with more emphasis on the harmonies, both guitars and vocals (something that prevails throughout the whole album). ‘Radio Superstar’ and the title track could easily gain airplay on rock radio, as both possess strong choruses and again great guitar parts.
Don’t let this little gem getaway as it is a must have for fans of Riot, BOC and lovers of well crafted hard rock/classic metal.

BURNING POINT ‘Burned Down The Enemy’ Metal Heaven (2007)

Finland is a hotbed for power/melodic/epic metal and Burning Point are yet another classy outfit from that part of the world. This is their third album and first for Metal Heaven. Musically it touches all the right bases – epic songs, lots of guitar sols, layers of keys and a powerhouse vocalist in the shape of Pete Ahonen. The first six songs are great with opener ‘Parasite’ and ‘Hell Awaits’ a good chance for the old air keyboards! Sadly though the album peters out after this although ‘Eye For An Eye’ is another good power metal romp.
Not a bad album at all and if you enjoy power metal with a nice dash of keys then this is well worth getting.

THE DOORS ‘Perceptions’ Rhino (2006) Six CD/six DVD box set

One for all Doors fans this little gem as you get their studio albums re-issued in 2-disc (CD & DVD) editions plus unreleased tracks and 5.1 surround sound mix. If that wasn’t enough you get six DVD’s which include live footage, photo galleries etc. This promo CD is a 21 track highlights so I can’t comment on the whole thing but having seen the finished item in stores it does look rather splendid. Personally I am not a big Doors fan but even I enjoyed listening to ‘Riders On The Storm’, ‘People Are Strange’ and the alternate takes on ‘Roadhouse Blues’, where the band let fly musically.
A ‘must have’ for fans of the band with bonus tracks on here to entice the fans who will doubtless already have all the albums.
