HEART ‘A Lovemonger’s Christmas’ Eagle Records (2006) www.eagle-rock.com
Heart’s Ann and Nancy Wilson have the Lovemongers as their more acoustic based band and this Christmas collection first saw the light of day back in 2004 under the Lovemongers name, although it gets a re-release here under the more marketable Heart banner. It’s a mix of new songs and some traditional tunes including a spine tingling version of ‘Ave Maria’. ‘Here Is Christmas’ and ‘Christmas Waits’ just show what soothing and melodic voice the Wilson sisters have, although ‘Let’s Stay In’ veers to close to jazz/lounge music for my personal taste.
A quiet and melodic Christmas album, not a parry album by any means and one that will appeal to Heart’s longer standing fans, those that enjoy the band’s 70’s folk tinged output.

MARION RAVEN ‘Heads Will Roll’ (2006) www.marion-raven.com
Marion Raven is gaining wider exposure after her duet ‘It’s All Coming Back To Me Now’ on Meat Loaf’s new album. This six track mini-album includes some songs by established musicians including Nikki Sixx on ‘Heads Gonna Roll’, the pick of the six songs on this disc. A very catchy rocker with an instantly memorable chorus. ‘All I Wanna Do’ is another good upbeat tunes and sees raven writing Buckcherry’s Keith Nelson. These two songs along with opener ‘Spit You Out’, are sure to please fans of female fronted rock – nothing to heavy but very addictive! The cover will draw in the men as well as it features Raven in her birthday suit with her bits tastefully covered either by her long hair or an acoustic guitar. I am sure we will see and hear more of Marion Raven in the months to come.
